In Heaven There Is No Beer

Beer #1: Devil’s Backbone

The first beer I tried is one that I've had my eye on for a while. A few things about it stood out; for instance, the brewer is Real Ale Brewery, a company that has never disappointed me with their eclectic beer selection. Aside from that, alcoholic beverages that feature allusions to the devil on their bottle design--for some bizarre reason--tend to be quite good, e.g. Devil's Cut whiskey, Arrogant Bastard. This beer was no exception.

What surprised me most about it was that the beer’s ABV (alcohol by volume) is a whopping 8.1%, though one could never tell from its lustrous golden color. Once imbibed, I detected a burst of fruitiness and piney flavors that complemented each other well. For those wary of bitterness in their beers, fear not, as Devil's Backbone shockingly smooth taste will satiate even the novice beer drinker.

This beer should be enjoyed in a convivial atmosphere. I made the mistake of drinking it while I watched The Revenant, a very intense film. Now I'll always be reminded of **SPOILER ALERT** a bear attacking Leonardo DiCaprio every time I drink it.
